Trends and challenges in glycobiology: Biophysical tools to advance your molecular studies

The prominent role of glycans in biomedical research is exponentially raising as researchers discover how these sugars deeply affect protein structure and function. These studies have broad applications in different research fields, ranging from structural biology, vaccine and drug development, viral infectious diseases, plant sciences, and antibody characterization, to mention a few. A key factor to success is understanding how glycan patterns influence protein properties, such as stability and binding affinities. We will provide a general overview on the trends and challenges in the field, discussing some recent papers where Microscale Thermophoresis and nanoDifferential Scanning Fluorimetry could boost this research and help in unraveling novel molecular functions.
