Dr. Hans-Jörg Roth, former director at Global Discovery Chemistry, Novartis Biomedical
Research. Dr. Roth holds a Master's degree in synthetic chemistry and a PhD under Prof. A.
Eschenmoser, where they investigated synthetic hexose nucleic acids and their pairing se-
lectivity compared to native DNA. His career at Novartis has been dedicated to exploring new
modalities for tackling challenging targets. Over the past decade, their research has focused
on ternary complexes, including hit finding, characterization, and cooperativity measurement.
Recent publications on ternary complexes:
• A model-informed method to retrieve intrinsic
from apparent cooperativity and project cellular
target occupancy for ternary complex-forming
compounds. RSC Chem. Biol., 2023, 4, 512–5236;

• Identification and characterization of ternary
complexes consisting of FKBP12, MAPRE1 and
macrocyclic molecular glues. RSC Chem. Biol.,

operativity α directly from single binding assay
