48 Final thoughts 11 In this eBook, we've learned from eight PIs who shared their unique perspectives on dealing with the challenges of starting their own labs. While the leap from postdoc to lab head may seem overwhelming, hopefully their experiences, advice and pointers sprinkled throughout these pages make you feel better prepared and ready to take on any challenge that comes your way when starting your own lab. Finally, remember that you are not alone. There are many people out there who can help you. Rely on them. Seek mentors, colleagues and friends who are a few steps ahead of you on this road. And, don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. They've all gone through the same struggles and can help you with the hindsight of their diverse experiences. You're finally starting your own lab, so do your best to enjoy the beginning of the most rewarding stage of your scientific career.
