41 Don't stop being in the lab Even though it's hard, you need to spend time in the lab every week. Dedicating time for research will bring you closer to your team. Above all, you're a researcher, so try to do the best science you can. Ideally, you would expect that all your students go through their learning curve and obtain confident results, but the timing to obtain results for publications or funding o en pushes you to get your hands in the lab and do things by yourself. So, at the beginning you'll likely be the best pair of hands in your lab. Ronny Martinez Unfortunately, there's a lot of unexpected administration work that needs to be taken care of. That's something I've never anticipated and that I struggle with as a young PI. To deal with it, I try to divide the amount of time for doing paperwork and time for doing research.
