19 Expanding your lab As your resources and staff grow, you may need to expand your lab. Since space is a limited resource, remember to discuss the possibility of expansion when negotiating your startup package. Young faculty need to address the possibility of expanding. What happens in three years when I get my first or second grant? Where do I expand? Will that second space be on another floor? Because geography will make a difference, you don't want your lab to be split up. You want it to be a fused space.
