16 Several vendors offer technologies that characterize protein stability, and information about their product offerings can mostly be found on the companies' websites or in sales collateral such as catalogs, brochures, and videos. Browsing a product's specifications and features should help answer key questions about the technology, such as whether or not the instrument and so ware are user- friendly, the size of the footprint, and what consumables are required for its use. Although this information will certainly help, it may not answer all of your questions. Therefore, you may need to contact the vendor. Before you do that, you should have a list of questions prepared that will help determine if the instrument is right for your lab. These might include: • How easy is it to run the instrument or set up an experiment? • How long does it take to run an experiment? • Are the consumables complicated to use, and what do they cost? VENDORS (ALPHA ORDER) Malvern Instruments www.malvern.com Malvern's PEAQ-DSC instruments enable DSC NanoTemper Technologies nanotempertech.com NanoTemper offers Prometheus, a series of systems that uses a specialized, label-free version of DSF to characterize thermal unfolding, chemical denaturation, and aggregation. TA Instruments www.tainstruments.com TA Instruments makes differential scanning calorimeters Jasco jascoinc.com/ Provider of circular dichroism instruments. Unchained Labs www.unchainedlabs.com UNcle is a multimode reader platform that measures a number of stability parameters Wyatt Instruments www.wyatt.com Wyatt's instruments employ dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering technology Note: This list does not include the many vendors that sell SYPRO orange dye for DSF experiments or those that provide PCR machines certified for use in thermofluor experiments. How do I evaluate vendors?
